Learning ArcGIS Spatial Analyst - 1

For this assignment you are to download 1 degree DEM data for the area of your choice and create a map layout as follows:

  1. Navigate to http://seamless.usgs.gov/
  2. On the lower left go to the seamless viewer
  3. Using the Zoom tool zoom in on the area of your choice (not too big here, your download should be less than 5 MB)
  4. Using the Download tool download your DEM data, extract it and load it into ArcMap
  5. Create a layout with at least two layers showing your elevation data contoured and another showing it reclassified to 10 or less bands.
  6. In your layout feel free to use an inset map, add other basemap imagery, etc.
  7. Summarize in 1/2 to 1 page what you have learned about GIS (ArcGIS Spatial Analyst) from this module. Intended audience is your boss or a colleague.
